KALAMAZOO, MI – The accolades keep coming for a former Kalamazoo prodigy who is now a music producer behind the number one song in the country. “Mood” is now back atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a sixth week after slipping down to number two last week.

19-year old Keegan Christopher Bach, aka KBeaZy, teamed with 24kGoldn and Iann Dior to produce the current top song in the nation. KBeaZy was born in Kalamazoo and raised in Portage where his family still lives. He moved to Los Angeles last year after graduating from Portage Northern.

“Mood” is the first No. 1 song for 24kGoldn and Iann Dior. It’s also the first for KBeaZy who only recently was making beats and posting them on his active, successful YouTube page before connecting with numerous music artists.

“When I started out, it was all about making beats and sending them out to rappers,” KBeaZy told MLive. “It’s evolved from just making beats all day to making songs, helping the artists improve and doing whatever is necessary to make the best song.”

The talented young music maker says he started creating his beats when he was a freshman and it went quickly from there.

“Step one is making the beats and sending them to people. That’s how to get your foot in the door, but once you really want to start making great music, you have to be in the room and be involved in every aspect of the song. Making the beat is just step one of producing it.”

Because of the COVID pandemic, KBeaZy tells us the collaboration of “Mood” almost didn’t happen.

“I had been living in L.A. for a few months. I actually had talked to 24kGoldn online a few times. We then had a random writing session together. 24kGoldn then had a mixtape release party which I went to where I talked to him and also met Omer Fedi, another producer on ‘Mood.’ It sort of lined up perfectly that night.”

“Fast-forward a few months later toward the start of the pandemic, we all got together in an apartment one night. Fedi played the guitar, I made the beat, 24kGoldn sang the hook and we recorded it. That was the start of the lockdowns and I was scared to go out, but imagine if I hadn’t gotten together with them that night.”

KBeaZy has also worked with rapper/singers Kid Laroi, Killy, Demsey Hope, Maj, Chelsea Collins and Xavier Weeks. He also has tracks with Kehlani, G-Eazy, Smokepurpp, Roy Woods, Murda Gang and Dreamville. He says he hopes his current No. 1 is just the beginning.

“My goal was always to produce a number one song. I think now I want to just do it again and again. I just want to make songs people love and songs the world loves.”
